Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) is a fantastic program to accrue points. Besides having over 1,500 hotels in 100 different countries, you can also transfer your points to Marriott at a 1:3 ratio. Plus, SPG points are transferable to over 30 airlines, and for every 20,000 SPG points you transfer to an airline, you get 5,000 points extra. Bottom line, SPG points are some of the most versatile currency in the miles and points world.
Due to Starwood's recent merger with Marriott, the American Express co-branded SPG credit card will be discontinued soon and has a phenomenal sign on bonus that won't be available much longer.
Starwood Preferred Guest Personal Credit Card:
No annual fee the first year (there won't be a second year since the card is being discontinued)
25,000 Starpoints after spending $3,000 within the first three months of opening the card
Keep in mind that not all points are created equal. I value this 25,000 point bonus at $568 in travel due to Starwood's hotel portfolio and transfer partners. If you haven't looked into SPG yet, I encourage you to do so and learn more about all the excellent benefits they have to offer.
