Changes to Chase Sapphire Reserve

May 8, 2018

On August 26th, 2018 the following changes will go into effect for the Chase Sapphire Reserve:

  • Transactions that qualify for the $300 annual travel credit will no longer earn points.  Since they currently earn 3 points per dollar, you're looking at 900 less points a year.

  • Priority Pass select access will be limited to two guests per visit.  Additional guests can be admitted for an additional fee of $27 each.  Although this seems like a negative, a lot of the lounges have been overcrowding lately and this new rule could help with that.

  • Price protection will no longer be available.  This refers to when the price changes on a product you recently bought and is rumored to be taking place for all Chase credit cards.

Overall, these modifications have little effect unless you plan on taking a large group inside a lounge or are an avid user of Chase's price protection service.
